Introduction

I have been researching my family for about 20 years now. I have one line that goes back to Connecticut in the 1600's and another line that I haven't been able to find my 2nd great-grandfather's parents. I have done a lot of my research online since I haven't been able to actually go to many of the places my ancestors lived. I have also done research on friend's family because I love it so much. Recently, I thought it might be fun to get a group together of those who have already been researching their family to those who have no idea where to start in order to encourage each other. Sometimes you hit brick walls, and it is good to have others to give ideas of where to look next. Anyone who is interested researching their family line can join. Those nearby can get together and help each other to find out who came before you....

  1. I have researched my geneology off and on in the past. I canceled my membership to Ancestry.com, but I will go back there in the future. It was great to find actual documents with my great-great grandparents names written on them. Also, I recently found out (for sure) that the term "Black Dutch" was a cover for Native American. My grandmother died confused about her history, but it turns out that she was pretty much half Native American. :)

  2. What I am really thinking is we can meet to help those who are brand new and also talk about our brick walls. Montgomery County Library in Conroe has a great genealogical library. It is a great place to start for anyone. Later, we can go to Clayton Library as a group. Who knows, as we search, some of us can even go on little road trips. Hey, I want to go to Little Rock! I went to Waco, mainly for a mini-vacation but I was able to go to the library for a bit and visit the cemetery where my grandmother's godmother is buried (and I believe some family, but I haven't connected as of yet). I'm also waiting for the day that I actually find out a friend is a cousin! :)
